Day 5

Back to EDAE. I think EDAE is really cool, with its shops, interesting cafes and culture. It doesnt hurt that the shopping is cheaper over there too, most prob to cater to the several universities around that area - Ewha, Yonsei, Hongdae and a few more others.

Lunch was at some non-descript but nonetheless good place. Seems like there were quite a few locals who stopped by to eat here as well.

My first time eating cheese on rabokki (ramyeon and rice cake) and leng myeon (cold noodle). There's ice cubes in the cold noodles to keep it cold and refreshing - good for summer days.

Dinner was at Two Two fried chicken place near our guesthouse. I think i can eat fried chicken from any cuisine, anywhere anytime anyplace.

There was some kind of protest going on when we returned to our guesthouse, right outside the Myeongdong station exit, on the roads. There was this huge group of people shouting something, blocking the roads and causing a jam of vehicles.

After we reached the guesthouse, we googled to try and find out the reason for the protest. We guessed that the group of people were undocumented foreign workers. Apparently, there was a clamp down on these people by the Korean govt because of some treaty signed last year end. Police started to roam the streets and malls to capture these people to deport them back, in the process imposing some sort of unfair fine on them by deducting it out of their wages. Not only that, supposedly some of them suffered physical abuse. So yup, that explains the protest - I think.
